Need for Speed 2018

I was doing well with speed work until we went to Iceland. After Iceland, I didn't go to one single session. Therefore, I wasn't expecting much of myself at this race. I told myself that I was going to run up the God awful hill, but otherwise I wasn't going to push it. We did have very nice weather for the event, so that was a bonus.

There is this nice long downhill during the 1st mile. I was pretty conservative because I didn't want to tire myself out to get back up the damn hill. First mile was a 7:51. I knew I could have ran that faster, but again, I wanted to get up the hill. Second mile was an 8:02. Okay, not bad. Definitely not negative splits. The 3rd mile is always the toughest. I kept wanting to walk and I'd start to talk myself into it, but I just pushed and ran the entire sucker. Third mile was an 8:25, which I think it rather impressive on tired legs and a long climb. I finished the 5k with a time of 25:31, which was a minute faster than last year's race!!!

I'm pretty sure I have drool coming out of my mouth here... Another awesome finish photo!
