Quivering Quads Take Two

WTF

I just signed up for the Quivering Quads Half Marathon... Didn't I say last year that I wasn't going to do this ever again?

2013 QQ
I haven't forgotten about QQ 2013, nor the pain and agony, but I want to challenge myself.

I'm still on the yoga bender!! Day 8 completed (2 rest days because of the snow storm and the City was basically closed). I've totally been slacking on my running though. I'm supposed to do a 15k this weekend, but that means I only have one option for yoga and it's AFTER the race. I'm not sure I can handle it after 9 miles. I will see about doing the 3 mile course instead...

Still on the Bender

I missed two days of yoga because of the massive amount of snow we had Sunday into Monday... I really had no option since my yoga studio closed shop for those two days.

2014 "Polar Vortex"
Yogahour really kicked my ass tonight. I am finding out that after my 2.5 years of running, I've let me upper body go to absolute shit. We did several plank pose to push up, back to plank, to downward facing dog intervals tonight, and I couldn't do it. Also, I'm having a lot of trouble going from plank to side-plank (I think that's what it's called, where you're only on one straight arm, twisted to the side). OUCH. My arms are so wobbly. I feel like such a baby.

Hopefully by the end of the bender, I'll have more strength in my upper body.

Trying to do yoga at home, ha.

Bender Day 2

I actually got out of bed early, cleared the snow off of my car, and headed to 6:15 am yogahour. I can't believe I made it. It was very fitting that the word for the day was 'doable'. I did it!!! I did much better than yesterday, but think I need to slow things down a bit before I hit another yogahour class. I hope to get into a basics class, but I know they fill up fast. I will try tomorrow. I really enjoyed the class this morning. There were less people there, so I wasn't as intimidated. It was also very rewarding to see the daylight peek through and to have my workout completed before 8 am. I need to figure out my running schedule though.

Anyways, I need to try this Bloody Mary recipe... Carson Daly's "Magical" Bloody Mary, supposedly cures hangovers... (yah right).
  • Ketel One Vodka
  • Mr. & Mrs. T's "Original" Bloody Mary Mix
  • Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
  • Juice of Bubbies Bread & Butter Chips pickles
  • ½ tbsp. Morehouse Prepared Horseradish
  • McIlhenny Co. Original Flavor Tabasco sauce
  • Celery salt
  • Cracked pepper
  • Beef jerky for garnish
  • Lemon and celery stalks
Fill cup with lots of ice. Pour Ketel One until the cup is ¾ full. Add Mr. & Mrs. T's rest of the way. Add 4 to 5 shakes of Worcestershire sauce. Add 1/2 tbsp. prepared horseradish and a few shakes of Tabasco. Add a splash of sweet pickle juice and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Mix well, add more ice and top with celery salt, and a pinch of cracked black pepper. Add beef jerky and celery for garnish.

30 Day Bender

I signed up for the 30 Day Bender at Southtown Yoga Studio. While I know I won't be able to attend every day in January, I'm really going to try to improve my practice. I go to yoga at Indigo on Saturdays every now and then, and I really like my yoga instructor there. It's easier, for beginners like me, and peaceful.

Tonight at Southtown Yoga, I got my ass kicked. Like bad. It was a Yogahour class and it was fast paced and HARD. It was also packed and freaking hot in the room. So needless to say, I'm finally figuring out why you buy a towel to put over your mat. I'm at bit intimidated to go back because I was incredibly wobbly and crawled into child's pose several times while everyone else was doing stuff like this:

Ryan Leier - He was the yoga instructor at the SeaWheeze Festy... Amazing experience.

And crap like this:

What is this even called?
I have a lot to learn, and really need to gain upper body strength. I had several issues with my right elbow tonight. Ugh.
